Hey vegetarians -- guess what? This year, you don't have to be the only one
adopting turkeys and commiserating over tofu and broccoli. Jones Soda feels your meat-free pain and this year, the kooky soda company is offering their newest holiday-inspired flavor: Tofurky and Gravy.
This is far from the first unique flavor Jones Soda has come out with. Previous flavors have included (but are not limited to) Pea, Sweet Potato, Dinner Roll, Antacid, Green Bean Casserole, Fruitcake and, of course Turkey and Gravy.
According to
BevNET.com, Joth Ricci, president and CEO of Jones Soda is a fan of the new flavor. She notes, "While many think that eating turkey is the only way to celebrate Thanksgiving, we at Jones Soda suggest that this year you try something new and toast the noble bird with a cold bottle of Tofurky and Gravy."
Now, I've never tried tofurky in solid form, but I'm guessing it's gotta be better than in its carbonated, liquified state. Right? Weigh in, readers -- have you tried this newest concoction? Or more importantly,
would you try this newest concoction?
Order your Jones Soda creation, weird or not, at

try looking in your local Target. I know mine carries Jones Soda.

Wait until after Thanksgiving and Target will mark this soda down 75%. That is how we tried it, so no guilt throwing it away, after one sip, when you only spend $1.25.

Hm not sure about the particular flavor but I really like Jones otherwise. It just tends to be a little expensive since they don't ship out as much as other leading sodas to. When I do buy from them it's usually a treat for myself

Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Sodas?
I'm a vegetarian, and while I do enjoy the taste of tofurky if it's cooked right, I have absolutely no interest in trying this.
And I'd like to point out we don't just eat tofu for Thanksgiving. Every year I make a hearty pot pie, baked 5-cheese pasta, spinach and feta quiche, and a butternut squash pie.

Would you be willing to share the quiche recipe?

It's a recipe I got online which originally called for onion and frozen pie crust but I don't like onions and I have qualms with using a pie crust for a savory dish, so I prefer frozen biscuit dough, or you can make your own pretty easily, there are many recipes involving breadcrumbs and parmesan, they're pretty easy.
1/2 cup butter
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 (4.5 ounce) can mushrooms, drained
1 (6 ounce) package herb and garlic feta, crumbled
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
salt and pepper to taste
1 package frozen biscuit dough (Garlic flavored is a great touch)
4 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. Press the bread dough into a pie tin. In a medium skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Saute garlic in butter about 7 minutes. Stir in spinach, mushrooms, feta and 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Spoon mixture into crust.
3. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Season with salt and pepper. Pour into the pastry shell, allowing egg mixture to thoroughly combine with spinach mixture.
4. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Sprinkle top with remaining Cheddar cheese, and bake an additional 35 to 40 minutes, until set in center. Allow to stand 10 minutes before serving.

Tofurkey itself makes a great (cruelty-free) holiday treat. Delicious! But i don't know if I'd want to try it as a soda. Now & Zen used to produce an "Un-Turkey" which was even bettter than Tofurkey.

An even better vegetarian alternative is the Quorn "turkey" roast. It has the tast AND texture of turkey. You could even fool the meat-eaters in your home, except for the fact that all their "white-meat" slices would be perfectly round. Quorn "chicken" products are also FANTASTIC. As a meat eater (still), I LOVE their Chi'kn Cutlets with Guyere cheese.

Does it really taste like Tofurkey and gravy or does it have a soda (pepsi or coke) taste. It really sounds gross!!!!!

Pepsi and Coca-Cola are colas, meaning they derive flavoring from, among other things, the kola nut or an artificial substitute. This soda is not flavored at all like that. Containing no actual meat, it will probably be only "reminicent" of turkey and gravy for most tasters.
